Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge.
~ Proverbs 23:12
Lumen Christi operates by the simple principle that learning is a human endeavor, not reducible to standardized tests or state prescribed standards. We maintain a distinctive, classically inspired curriculum that is both consistent and continually reviewed and refined. Teachers monitor progress on a constant basis through relationship. Class sizes are small to facilitate interaction between teachers and students, and teachers are trained to use reflective teaching practices and pay close attention to classroom performance. Students are regularly evaluated by each teacher and systematic feedback is provided to parents. School administration and faculty are accessible and communicative.
The Pre-K program is intended for students who turn 4 years old by July 1. There is some flexibility in that cutoff depending on the readiness of the child for whom you are applying. Pre-K meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:30 - 2:20. Generally, we ask that all Pre-K students be fully potty trained, and are comfortable being away from their parents over the period of a whole school day.
We use the Catholic Icing home school Pre-K program and also Creating Early Readers in the classroom. We also incorporate the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd into the Pre-K program. Please contact our office for more details about our Pre-K curriculum.
With the input of those who work closest to the students, we have developed a curriculum that emphasizes fundamentals. Our materials are highly structured to keep teachers and students on track toward ambitious goals, without sacrificing the creativity and lightheartedness that make up young personalities. Because we establish our own curriculum, we offer a truly localized program that best suits the needs of our school.
Lumen Christi Catholic High School offers an intimate educational experience, where small class sizes and and classical curriculum create a fun yet mature learning experience. Students take courses in Theology, Math, Science, Literature, History, Political Science, and Latin. Instruction emphasizes quality literature and primary sources over the typical canned high school text. Discussions are, hence, elevated--a great preparation for college-level learning.
Graduates of Lumen Christi Catholic High School have been placed in colleges such as the Catholic University of America, University of Dallas, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Marian University, Ball State University, Indiana University, Purdue University, and Trine University.
